Disney's break-out animated masterpiece, The Little Mermaid, won two Golden Globe Awards at the 47th ceremony on January 20, 1990. Alan Menken won for Best Original Score. Under the Sea, written by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman won Best Original Song.
It was nominated for Best Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical but lost to Driving Miss Daisy.
