Sonny Carter, Space Shuttle astronaut, born 1947

Manley "Sonny" Carter, born August 15, 1947 in Macon, Georgia, went into space on Space Shuttle Discovery (STS-33) in November 1989, as mission specialist.

Carter died on April 5, 1991 in an airplane crash in Brunswick, Georgia.
