Georgy Shonin, born August 3, 1935 in the former Soviet Union, was a cosmonaut who went into space on Soyuz 6, which was launched in October 1969. The mission was part of a joint exercise with Soyuz 7 and Soyuz 8, the first time three Soviet spacecraft were in orbit at the same time.
Shonin left the space program in 1979 for medical reasons.
He passed away of a heart attack in 1997.
