Mariner 4: First flyby Mars 1965

Mariner 4 made the first flyby of Mars July 15, 1965.  After Mariner 3 was lost, Mariner 4 was successfully launched November 18, 1964.  It took the first close-up pictures of the Martian surface.

Communications were terminated December 21, 1967.
