Felicette, the first cat in space, blasted off October 18, 1963 from France's launch pad in Algeria. Her flight lasted 13 minutes and she experienced five minutes of weightlessness. She was recovered safely, but two months later, Felicette was euthanized so scientists could examine her brain.
