Gemini 2 launched 1965
Gemini 2, launched January 19, 1965, was the second flight of NASA's space program. It was an unmannned flight (as was Gemini 1) and lasted just over 18 minutes. Its suborbital flight was mainly to test the heat shield. Although the fuel cells failed before liftoff, the heat shield and retrorockets performed fabulously!
Gemini 2's reentry module was refurbished and flown again in November 1966. It was the first vehicle to go into space more than once since the X-15 and remained the only until Space Shuttle Columbia until its second flight in 1981.
