Lunar Orbiter 2's crash site
NASA's Lunar Orbiter 2, launched November 6, 1966, was on a mission to photograph the moon for smooth areas which could serve as landing sites for the Apollo missions. It began transmitted data on November 18 and continued to about December 7, transmitting high resolution images, including a picture of the Copernicus crater.
Lunar Orbiter 2 continued orbiting the moon until it crashed October 11, 1967. In 2011, NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera located its impact site on the far side of the moon.
