Martin Luther King delivers his "I Have A Dream Speech" 1963

Civil rights activist Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his I Have a Dream speech August 28, 1963 on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.  He started his speech saying that although the Emancipation Proclamation which freed the slaves, "one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free.". 

One of the most quoted lines from his (or any) speech:
"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. I have a dream today!"

Smithsonian Museum of Air and Space and the National Mall

After a quick bite of lunch, we went to the Air and Space Museum and then walked down the National Mall.

I was surprised the fountains were still on despite the cold.

The WWI Memorial is almost forgotten it seems. I looked like trees have been trimmed back from around the memorial, but work on the Reflection Pool has limited access to it. We could've walked up to it but only by backtracking a ways.

The Korean War Memorial is one of my favorites. It's a very solemn and moving monument.

Kevis's First Trip to Washington, DC

Our nephew Kevis came up from Atlanta to visit us, his first trip to Washington, DC. So we took him to do the touristy things.

Sometimes, he's too cool for school. He CAN smile. On occasion.

But it usually takes bribery.

Don't quiz him on the what the monuments are, though.
