"Star Wars A New Hope" wins 6 Oscars 1978
George Lucas' masterpiece, Star Wars: A New Hope, won six Academy Awards April 3, 1978, after receiving 10 nominations.
It won Best Original Score for John Williams, Best Sound, Best Costume Design, Best Art Direction, Best Film Editing and Best Visual Effects.
Ben Burtt received a Special Achievement Award for his creation of alien, creature, and robot voices.
The nominations were for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Supporting Actor for Alec Guiness.
John Williams was also nominated for Close Encounters of the Third Kind for Best Original Score.
