Seals & Crofts' "Summer Breeze" certified gold 1972

Summer Breeze, released by Seals and Crofts August 1972, was certified gold December 14, 1972.  It reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was described by Bruce Eder of AllMusic as "one of those relentlessly appealing 1970s harmony-rock anthems...appropriately ubiquitous on the radio and in the memory". 

The J. Geils Band releases "Freeze Frame" 1982

The J. Geils Band released Freeze Frame, their second single from their tenth studio album of the same name.  It became the second consecutive million-selling, gold-certified hit from the album, after Centerfold, the first single.

It peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

ABBA releases "Arrival" 1976

The Swedish super-group (and one of my favorite bands!) ABBA released their fourth studio album, Arrival, October 11, 1976, and it became one of their best-selling albums.  It was the first LP album that I ever purchased and it was money well spent.  It spawned three singles: Dancing Queen (which has been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame); Knowing Me, Knowing You; Money, Money, Money.

The album went gold in U.S. and was the best selling album in the U.K. in 1977.

The Sweet's "Little Willy" is certified Gold 1973

The Sweet released their single Little Willy in May 1972 and was certified gold April 25, 1973.  Although rock music journalists "loathed it", it became a huge success for The Sweet.  It was their biggest hit in the US, reaching #3 on the Billboard Hot 100.  

Glenn Miller's "Chattanooga Choo Choo" reaches #1 1941

Glenn Miller and his orchestra's recording of Chattanooga Choo Choo reached #1 December 7, 1941, a day that will live in infamy, and remained there for 9 weeks.  It was the first song to receive a gold record for sales of 1.2 million copies.  

It was featured in the movie Sun Valley Serenade.  It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song.  In 1996, Miller's recording of Chattanooga Choo Choo was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. 

Donna Summer releases "The Wanderer" 1980

Donna Summer released her eighth studio album The Wanderer October 20, 1980.  She was disappointed with her previous label Casablanca Records and decided to move on and became the first artist to be signed onto Geffen Records.

The single The Wanderer reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100.  The single Cold Love got her a Grammy nomination for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.  Her song I Believe in Jesus was nominated for Best Inspirational Performance.  

The Wanderer has been certified gold.
