Janet Jackson releases "Miss You Much" 1989

Miss Janet released Miss You Much, the first single from her iconic and legendary album Rhythm Nation 1814 August 21, 1989.  It became her second top #1 in her career and spent four weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, being the longest running #1 in 1989. 

It was nominated for two Grammy Awards and won the Billboard Award for Top Hot 100 Single of the Year.  It also won American Music Awards for Favorite Dance Single and Favorite R&B Single.  It has been certified platinum. 

Janet Jackson releases "Control" 1986

Janet Jackson released Control, the fourth single from her third album Control.   It won the Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B/Soul or Rap Music Video in 1988.  It reached #1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Dance Club Play charts.

It is listed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's list of 500 songs that shaped rock and roll.

Pet Shop Boys' "West End Girls" reaches #1 1986

Released in April 1984, the Pet Shop Boys single West End Girls reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 May 10, 1986.  It stayed there for only one week, but it was the first of many singles for the Pet Shop Boys.   It won Best Single at the Brit Awards.  It was awarded Song of the Decade between years 1985 and 1994 by the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters.

The Pointer Sisters release "Jump (For My Love)" 1984

My girls the Pointer Sisters released Jump (For My Love) April 11, 1984, the third single from their album Break Out.  It was the best-selling American dance single of 1984 and became an international hit.  It won a Grammy Award in 1985 for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. 

It was on April 11, 2006 that we lost June. :(
