WALL-E wins two Grammy Awards 2009

My hero WALL-E won two Grammy Awards during the 51st annual celebration February 8, 2009.  Actually Peter Gabriel got the trophies.  The first for Best Song Written for Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media for the song Down to Earth.

The second award was for Best Instrumental Arrangement for Define Dancing, arranged by Peter Gabriel and Thomas Newman.  Newman was also nominated for Best Score Soundtrack Album for Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media, but lost to The Dark Night.

John Williams won a Grammy for Best Instrumental Composition for The Adventures of Mutt from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.  What was his total tally at that time?

One of my favorites from Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Runnin' Down a Dream, won Best Long Form Music Video. 

The lovely Natalie Cole won Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for Still Unforgettable, another compilation of her performing her father's songs. 

Happy birthday, Jeff Lynne!

Jeff Lynne, born December 30, 1947 in Birmingham, England, is the mind behind super-group Electric Light Orchestra (ELO).  He formed the band in 1970 and enjoyed great success until 1986 when they disbanded for the first time.

He then performed with The Traveling Wilburys with Roy Orbison, George Harrison, Bob Dylan and Tom Petty.  Lynne produced the album The Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1 which received a Grammy award in 1989 for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. 

He produced Tom Petty's album Full Moon Fever, which includes the singles Won't Back Down and Runnin' Down a Dream.  He produced Agnetha Faltskog's single One Way Love, which appeared on her second post-ABBA album.

He released an album of all new ELO music Alone in the Universe, November 13, 2015.

Remembering Tom Petty (1950-2017)

I have to admit that I wasn't a huge fan of Tom Petty, but I did enjoy much of his music.  Tragically, he has passed away at 66 from cardiac arrest.  He first hit the charts with his band the Heartbreakers and that is when I heard him, mainly his videos on MTV.  Don't Do Me Like That is probably the first song I remember hearing of his.  It's from his Damn the Torpedoes album that has been listed as one of Rollings Stones best 500 Rock Albums of all time!

He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.
