Billy Joel releases "We Didn't Start the Fire"

Billy Joel released We Didn't Start the Fire, a single from his album Storm Front, September 27, 1989.  It is a list of world events that took place from 1949, when Billy was born, to 1989.  It reached #1 in the United States in December for two weeks.  It was nominated for a Grammy for Record of the Year.

Billy Joel's smash single We Didn't Start the Fire from the album Storm Front reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 December 9, 1989.  It was nominated for a Grammy for Record of the Year but lost to Bette Midler's Wind Beneath My Wings.

Apparently, a 21 year-old told Billy after the singer had just turned 40 that nothing happened in the 1950s, so Billy, a self professed history nut,wrote this song.

My man Billy cranks out another awesome album!  Storm Front was released October 17, 1989, his eleventh studio album.  It went quadruple platinum in the U.S. and double platinum in Canada and Australia.  Storm Front garnered 5 Grammy nominations.  His song We Didn't Start the Fire was nominated for Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male.  The album was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male and Producer of the Year (Non-classical) with Mick Jones.

We Didn't Start the Fire was his biggest hit from Storm Front but my favorite is The Downeaster "Alexa".
