The Naked Gun released 1988

Naked Gun, the first of three movies from the Files of Police Squad, was released in the US December 2, 1988.  It starred Leslie Nielsen as Lt. Frank Drebin, Priscilla Presley, Ricardo Montalban, 'Weird Al' Yankovic, and disgraced professional athlete OJ Simpson.  

The movie followed Ricardo Montalban's character trying to attempting to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II, and Frank Drebin trying to stop him.   The result is a hilarious non-stop ride of slapstick humor and dark comedy.  

It opened to pretty positive reviews with a 90% rating from Rotten Tomatoes.  Naked Gun spawned two sequels.  

"Baby, It's Cold Outside" wins Oscar for Best Original Song 1950

The duet Baby, It's Cold Outside from the movie Neptune's Daughter won the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 22nd ceremony, March 23, 1950.  It was performed twice during the movie, once with Ricardo Montalban (Kahn) and Esther Williams; then with Red Skelton and Betty Garrett (Mrs. Babish from Laverne and Shirley).  

Since then, it has been covered numerous times by artists including Dolly Parton, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, and Garth Brooks.

Happy birthday, Star Trek actors Beverly Washburn, Jeffrey Hunter, John Larroquette, and Ricardo Montalban

 

Four actors, all born on November 25, appeared in Star Trek episodes and movies.  

Beverly Washburn, born in 1943, appeared in the Star Trek episode The Deadly Years. She played Lt. Arlene Galway, who mysteriously ages rapidly, as several other members of the Enterprise crew including Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock and Dr. McCoy.  But not Chekov.

Jeffrey Hunter, born in 1926, appeared in the Star Trek pilot episode The Cage as Captain Christopher Pike.  He is held prisoner by aliens with telepathic powers.  It was the first episode to the original series.

John Larroquette, born 1947, played the Klingon Maltz in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.  He was the lone Klingon left on the Bird-of-Prey when Kirk and his crew commandeer the Klingon's vessel.  

Ricardo Montalban, born 1920, appeared in the Star Trek episode Space Seed in 1967 as Khan, the leader of a group of genetically engineered humans in suspended animation.  He reprised the role in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan in 1982.

I'm glad to read I'm not the only one who thinks this is the best movie out all the ones with the  cast from original Star Trek.  "Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan" was released June 4, 1982, was a sequel to the original series episode "Space Seed" starring Ricardo Montalban.  The difference in release dates between "Space Seed" and "Star Trek II" is 15 years, which is the same difference in the time in which these events are to have happened.

Ricardo Montalban did not wear a prosthetic chest.  That's his real chest, folks!
