Eye candy in Estonia

It's not that there weren't many good-looking guys in Estonia, but it seems that if their job doesn't involve public performance, large groups of elderly tourists appear to drive the handsome ones away.

Day 9 (cont.) - Leaving Tallin, Estonia

Our time in Tallin was very short but wonderful. We said good-bye to Estonia and headed for Russia.

The maneuverable thrusters churn up the bay.

An American military ship was in the harbor having some sort of ceremony. We weren't invited, but we had a better looking ship.

Fuzzy says 'Hi, y'all!'

Our towel animal that evening. Any guesses?

Day 9 (cont.) - Toompea Castle, Estonia

Toompea Castle is the seat of the Parliament of the Republic of Estonia - the Riigikogu.

The castle complex is made up of several parts: the west wall and the Tall Hermann tower belong to the medieval fortress of the Order of the Brothers of the Sword, the Government Administration building represents the Czarist era and is classic in style, and the building of the Riigikogu, in the castle couryard, was built in the beginning of the 1920s.

It is known that already in the 9th century there was an ancient Estonian fortress on Toompea, which was conquered by the Danes in 1219. From then on until the first decades of the 20th century, Toompea belonged to various foreign rulers. In 1710 the ownership of Toompea was changed from Swedish to Russian Czarist. Catherine the Great ordered construction of the Estonian Government Administration building on the east side, completed in 1773.

On Feb 24, 1918, Estonia became an independent state.

Day 9 (cont.) - Vodka Tasting, Estonia

Our next stop was a vodka distillery, one of over 60 in Estonia. Guess where Absolut "a product of Finland" comes from? Finland? Guess again.

Five of us volunteered to taste 6 different brands of vodka.

Cindy takes a taste.

Y2K, conveniently hidden in the pic here, was unanimously considered to be lighter fluid. One of the best, and my favorite, is the one in front: Koskenkorva. Better than Absolut and Schmirnoff.

I got a certificate "the best spirits taster". So there.

Day 9 - Tallin, Estonia - The Village of Rakvere

We arrived at the port of Tallin early Friday morning.

The bus trip to the medieval castle and village of Rakvere took about an hour and a half.

The village of Rakvere dates back to the thirteenth century.

This is a typical house built in the eighteenth century and restored as the house of a wealthy family at the beginning of the twentieth century.

We don't know what the hell this is.
