Kristin Chenoweth, Judi Dench win their first Tony Awards 1999

Kristin Chenoweth and Judi Dench each won their first Tony Awards at the 53rd annual ceremony held June 6, 1999.

Kristin won Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical for her role as Sally Brown in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown.

Judi Dench won Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play for her role as Esme Allen in Amy's View.  

Bernadette Peters won her second Tony for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for her role as Annie Oakley in Annie Get Your Gun.  

Stockard Channing was nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play for her role as Eleanor of Aquitaine in The Lion in Winter. I would have loved to have seen her performance. 

"Notes On A Scandal" released 2006

Talk about a powerhouse movie with two phenomenal actresses, Dame Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett, as the leads.  Notes on a Scandal was released in the US January 26, 2006.  Dench and Blanchett play high school teachers in England.  When Blanchett's character begins an affair with a teenager, Dench's character tries to use the knowledge to her own benefit.

Dench and Blanchett both received Oscar nominations for their performances.  

Very good movie!

Happy birthday, Dame Judi Dench!

One of my most favorite actresses, Dame Judi Dench, was born December 9, 1934 in York. She was appointed an Officer of the British Empire in 1970, and a Dame Commander of the OBE in 1988.

She's been nominated for an Academy Award seven times and won Best Actress in a Supporting Role in 1999 for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth I in Shakespeare in Love.  She's been nominated for a Golden Globe 11 times and won twice, once in 1998 for her portrayal of Queen Victoria in Mrs. Brown.

I remember her joking about winning the Academy Award for being on screen for only 6 minutes, but I remember her performance in the movie.  If she had been given any more time, they would have had to rename the movie Elizabeth, but there was already a film out at the same time with the same name.
