"Dancing Queen" "Le Freak" "Swing Low" inducted into Grammy Hall of Fame 2015

The Grammy Hall of Fame honors musical recordings of lasting qualitative or historical significance.  Recordings must be over 25 years old for consideration. At the 57th annual Grammy Awards celebration February 8, 2015, twenty-seven new recordings were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. 

Among them were two recordings of the African American folk song Swing Low, Sweet Chariot: The Fisk Jubilee Singers for their 1909 recording; and Paul Robeson for his 1926 recording.

ABBA's Dancing Queen and Chic's Le Freak were inducted as well.

Chic released "C'est Chic" 1978

R&B/Disco group Chic released their second studio album C'est Chic, August 11, 1978.  It is the band's best-selling album, reaching #1 on Billboard's R&B charts and #4 on Billboard's album chart. C'est Chic was Billboard's 1979 R&B Album of the Year.  It has been certified platinum by the RIAA for selling over a million copies.

It spawned two singles, Le Freak, which went to #1 in December 1978, and I Want Your Love, the successful follow-up which went to #1 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs.

Chic's "Le Freak" reaches #1 1978

R&B band Chic, third single from their album C'est Chic, Le Freak, reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 December 9, 1978.  It reached #1 on the Disco charts for seven weeks.  Billboard magazine ranked it as the number 3 song for 1979.  Le Freak is certified 4 x platinum.

It was selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress in 2018, for being "culturally, historically, or artistically significant." 

Janet Jackson and The Cars nominated for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2016

Janet Jackson, The Cars, Chicago and The Steve Miller Band have been nominated for induction into next year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  Of the fifteen nominees, eight are on the list for the first time.  Chaka Khan and Cheap Trick are also first-timers.

The remaining seven have been here before, including Chic, who are up for the tenth time.  No other artists have been nominated this many times without being inducted.

I like Chic, but they didn't have many hits other than "Le Freak".  Janet should be a shoo-in with her work but I think The Cars, Chicago and The Steve Miller Band will be the ones inducted.  Still, I wish all the artists good luck this year.
