"The Big Bang Theory" premieres 2007

The best and probably only television show to celebrate and revere nerds, The Big Bang Theory, premiered September 24, 2007.  Four hopelessly socially-impaired geeks navigate their way through life dealing with their jobs, rivalries and beautiful women. 

It starred Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Mayim Bialik, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, and Melissa Rauch. 

In 2011, Jim Parsons won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series.  The series won numerous Primetime Emmy Awards. Stephen Hawking, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Wil Wheaton, Bill Nye and astronaut Michael Massimino all made appearances over the course of the series.

TV Guide has listed it as #52 on its list of the best 60 series  of all time.

The series wrapped up in 2019 after 12 seasons.

Happy birthday, Space Shuttle astronaut Mike Massimino!

Mike Massimino, born August 19, 1962 in New York, is a veteran of two space shuttle flights and has appeared on the Big Bang Theory as himself!  How cool is that?!

His first mission was on Columbia (STS-109) as mission specialist in March 2002.  It was the fourth servicing mission to the Hubble Space Telescope.  He conducted two EVAs for a total of 14 hours and 46 minutes.

His second and final flight was on Atlantis (STS-125) as mission specialist in May 2009.  During the mission, Massimino was the first person to 'tweet' from space.

Since then he has appeared on television as himself, most notably The Big Bang Theory.

Carol Ann Susi born 1952

Carol Ann Susi, born February 2, 1952, was best known the voice of Mrs. Wolowitz on The Big Bang Theory.  We never saw her but no one will ever forget her raspy, Jewish-laden tone.  Unfortunately, she passed away in 2014 from cancer.  The producers of The Big Bang Theory chose to have Mrs. Wolowitz die on the show rather than replace her.

I think we all agree there could be no replacement for Ms. Susi!
