The X-Files episode "D.P.O." airs 1995

The third episode of the third season of X-Files, D.P.O., aired October 6, 1995.  Scully and Mulder investigate a young man who appears to possess electrokinesis, the ability to manipulate electricity.  Sound familiar?  A man in Oklahoma who can control lightning?

Oh, well.

Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny portray their characters of Scully and Mulder.  Giovanni Rabisi plays the man with the ability to conjure lightning bolts and Jack Black plays the same character he does in almost all his movies.

Pluto's Heart is available today on Amazon!

My latest short story Pluto's Heart is now available from JMS Books!

Follow this link to order it on Amazon!

Read an excerpt here:

“Atmospheric pressure and standard temperature have been established,” the computer said. “You may now safely remove your helmet and space suit.”
“Finally,” he muttered. It took him almost five minutes to remove his suit, down to the nylon overalls he wore underneath and scanned the interior of the building. It appeared to be more machine shop than scientific outpost. Almost every square meter of the space was occupied with machinery and scientific equipment. A narrow path wound between the mountains of apparatus, just wide enough for him to pass through. Brian took a tentative step forward and his foot falls seemed to echo.
A noise from somewhere inside grabbed his attention and he made his way toward the sound. An opening appeared before him as he stepped around a stack of containers. A small living space, about three meters by four meters sat among the piles. It had a low bed, an exercise station and a kitchenette. A chamber jutted out from the wall into the room and Brian could see a toilet and shower inside.
A lone figure sat at a table, his back to Brian, hunched over a piece of scientific equipment.
“Zack?” Brian spoke in a soft voice, as not to startle him. How could he have not heard me enter? The airlock is not quiet, and the computer voice was loud enough to hear through my helmet.
The figure turned around
“Brian?” The red-bearded face appeared greyer and more drawn then when Brian had last seen him and Zack seemed thinner, but he was still the handsome man Brian fell in love with years ago.
Zack wore overalls similar to the one Brian had on, and heavy boots. He walked toward Brian who held his arms out for a hug.
When he got close enough, Zack punched him hard in the face. Brian fell back, landing on a pile of luggage straps.
He lay still for a few seconds, stunned, pain shooting through his skull. When the shock subsided, Brian struggled to get his feet and cleared his vision, noting Zack had not moved.
“Not the reception I was expecting,” Brian said, rubbing his cheek where Zack’s fist had connected, feeling the stubble that had grown during his trip.
“What did you expect?” Zack snapped. “You’re responsible for me being stranded on this fucking rock! Did you think I was going to welcome you with open arms and on my knees?”  His voice rose to a shout.
“Wait a minute,” Brian retorted. “You left me!  You wanted to come out here to get away from me!”
“I did not leave you,” Zack yelled.  “I was told you wanted to break up with me and the next thing I knew, I was shipped out to this frozen cesspool.”
“I was on the other side of Titan when you left,” Brian argued.  “We hadn’t talked for several days, so who told you I wanted to break up?”
Zack pressed his lips together and did not respond.
“Maybe the same person who told me you requested this assignment?”
“Assignment?” Zack looked surprised. His expression changed to amusement and he burst out laughing. “Do you think this is an assignment?” He spat out the last word. “This is a fucking death sentence,” he continued shouting. “We are never getting off this goddamned planet. At least I’ll have the satisfaction knowing you’re stuck here too. And will probably die here.  With luck before me.” He turned and walked back to his workstation.

The Wooden Samurai to be released June 24!

My latest story, The Wooden Samurai, will be available this Saturday, June 24 from JMS Books!

Blurb:

Hirata decides on a plan to convince Matsuda that he is ready, but before he can put it into action, an earthquake and a tsunami destroy the daimyo’s manor.

Hirata becomes frantic, since he has no idea if Matsuda is alive and if he will ever see him again.

Excerpt:
Hirata entered the barracks, walking to the room he shared with eleven other samurai officers to shed his traveling cloak before the mid-day meal. Because of his rank, he did not have to bunk with dozens of men to a room, like the unranked warriors.  It gave him a little more room and enough space to keep a small chest for personal belongings, like his cloak.  He took it off as he approached the threshold to his room, since he would not need it again until he rode out with the next patrol that afternoon.
Hirata came to a stop in the doorway. Something wrapped in a rough cloth sat in the middle of his cot.
What is that?  Is it dangerous? His samurai instincts warned him to be cautious and wary of anything out of place.
His first inclination was to throw the thing as far away into the ocean as he could, but he couldn't think of anyone who would want to do him harm.  But if someone was trying to destroy the daimyo, an inside job would be most effective.  Ruin the lord by decimating his loyal subjects and making it look like inner turmoil, rather than an outside influence.
I had better see what it is before I try to destroy it.
Hirata strode to his bed and snatched up the package. He tore off the wrapping and his breath caught in his throat. The cloth fell away to reveal an elaborate wooden carving of a samurai on a horse.
Hirata gaped at it, admiring its beauty and detail.  He turned it over and over in his hands.
Who could have crafted something so exquisite? Or who could afford to buy something so expensive?
A samurai’s pay did not allow for such extravagant purchases so whoever bought it must have sacrificed at least three month’s salary.
Noises outside indicated men approaching. Hirata re-wrapped the figure in the cloth and put it in his small chest with his other precious items. He had just slid the chest under his bed when three of his friends appeared in the doorway.
"It is time for the mid-day meal, Hirata-san," Kenji said, a burly samurai with thick beard and hair pulled into a knot on the top of his head. "We must hurry or else it will all be eaten by the time we get there."
"You could certainly do without a meal or two," Hirata said with a laugh.
"Do not be fooled," Kenji said with the gap-toothed grin, rubbing his belly. "It is all muscle."
All of them laughed as they left the barracks. Despite his outward appearance of good humor, Hirata still wondered who had given him such an expensive gift. As he walked toward the great hall for the mid-day meal, he glanced at the faces of the servants, retainers, samurai and the rest of the daimyo’s subjects.
Could it be one of them? None of them could afford such an item.  And certainly not one of Lord Takarada’s daughters, who were older than Hirata or granddaughters who were too young, but they were only ones who had that kind of wealth.
As they approached the hall, movement on the roof covering the border fence caught Hirata’s eye. The sentries and archers stationed in lookout towers were changing shifts, replacing the men who had been up there since midnight. One of the archers glanced in his direction as he approached the ladder, and their eyes met for an instant. Even with a broad hat shading the man’s face, Hirata caught his gaze for a second.  An unspoken message passed between them. The archer turned to descend.
Matsuda?

"Dick Dancers" gets 4 Hearts from MMGoodBookReviews.com!

Prime gave Dick Dancers 4 Hearts!  Thank you, Prime! Read the entire review below:
Reviewer: Prime
Review: I’m going to keep this one short, not just because this is a short story but because I don’t want to ruin the element of surprise of this book. We are introduced to Joel, who for the sake of brevity can be a selfish prick, as well as his sweet and caring boyfriend, Sam. Joel is a sought after dancer at the club where he works and ends up with a stalker.
This is a well written book and I got quickly engrossed with the story, despite the fact I did not like Joel particularly well from the beginning. All I’m going to say is that I did not see the end with this one and I hope that there could be another short giving a bit more…and that is all!
Enjoy!

"The Glass Slipper" is available now at Amazon!

My latest story The Glass Slipper, published by JMS Books, is now available on Amazon!  It's my M/M take on Cinderella.  Read the excerpt below!

Blurb:
Cillian is trapped in his small village, by his loser uncle and cousins until the royal family comes to the village. The Queen Mother Beyta seeks him out to repair a glass slipper the Princess Itha broke.  Cillian’s uncle and cousins try to sabotage his work for Beyta but she saves him and brings him to the notice of the King, the prince and princess.  He presents a gift to the lovely Princess Itha but he catches the eye of the handsome Prince Pari.  Who will break the curse of his entrapment and cast a spell on him?

Excerpt:
A noise above him brought Cillian out of his thoughts. The door opened and footsteps descended the stone steps. Arten appeared dressed in his finest jerkin with slashed sleeves and satin chemise, his best hose and a hat Cillian had never seen before. His boots had been cleaned and tied with new laces. He carried a bowl and a wooden spoon.
Arten sat the bowl and spoon on a small table and removed Cillian’s gag.
“We’re off to the holy day celebration dinner at the king’s cottage,” he sneered. “The Queen Mother came by and picked up the slippers but we told her you were all tied up.” He laughed at his own joke and then pivoted in place. “By the way, do you like my new hat? I used the money you hid to purchase it today.”
Cillian gaped but said nothing, glaring at him.
“I brought you some soup for you, since you won’t get anything else until breakfast,” Arten said caustically. He brought the bowl and spoon closer to Cillian. Ladling some of the soup, he held the spoon to Cillian’s lips, letting him take some food. The broth was cold and watery, with little taste. He screwed up his face as he swallowed the vile liquid.
Arten raised another spoonful to his mouth. This time, Cillian took the soup in his mouth and then spat it out, spraying Arten’s fine clothing.
“My jerkin! It’s ruined! You bastard,” Arten shouted. He dropped the bowl to the floor and slapped Cillian hard across the face. Cillian’s head snapped around at the blow. He turned to face Arten but received another strike. And a third.
He endured several minutes of the beating, until Arten stopped, seemingly more from fatigue rather than mercy.
“Just starve then! See if I care!” he screamed. He re-tied Cillian’s gag, tighter than before. Arten ran out the door and slammed it behind him, leaving Cillian in the dark.

Great review for "Dick Dancers" from the Blogger Girls!

I don't know why I didn't post this when it came out but here it is!  Thanks, Blogger Girls!

Review: This is a short story about two guys making a living in NYC as go go dancers. If you’ve ever been to NY and experienced the bars and go go dancers, I think you’ll appreciate this story a bit more. It was fun to see this exaggerated version of how things are.

Joel and Sam’s lives consist of little more than going to the gym and dancing. At least, that’s all Joel seems to care about. He is with Sam, but is constantly thinking about more, being with more people, making more money, how much better he is than everyone else, etc. He is basically a big jerk with no redeemable qualities. I had absolutely no idea what Sam saw in him.

Sam is a sweet guy who, while he enjoys his job as a dancer, is looking for a bigger break. He spends his days looking for acting jobs or modeling gigs while still fitting in the gym and the dancing job. He pretty much only has eyes for Joel, though, again, I can’t fathom why. When Joel starts getting messages from a stalker, Sam is the only one who seems concerned.

Things escalate as the stalker steps up his game, but there is a pretty big twist that, even though it should have been obvious, I didn’t really see coming. This may have been the first time I was ever really happy about the outcome of such a twist.

Needless to say, this story was a really fast read, and storyline aside, the writing was well done. It was easy to read, made me chuckle at the almost ridiculous actions of Joel, and though this isn’t really a romance, I did feel like there was a HEA when all was said and done.

This is my first story by Mr. Morgan, and I’m looking forward to checking out his other work.

Overall Impression: I liked it

*I received a copy of this book from the publisher in return for a fair and honest review.*

My new story "Realm of the Grizzly Bear" is here!

My new, bearotica, shape-shifter story "Realm of the Grizzly Bear" is released today from JMS Books!  And it's on sale today, so go and get it!

Blurb:
Jarrod has become obsessed with finding Caleb, the white-haired bear who rescued him from freezing to death in a blizzard the previous winter.  After their night of passion, Jarrod realizes his body is changing.  He is becoming larger, more muscular and hairier so he wants to find Caleb to find out what’s happening to him.

Jarrod searches the forest where he encountered Caleb but instead finds Logan, and almost loses his life.  Caleb rescues him and tells Jarrod he is becoming a bear, a real bear, to be a guardian of the forest.  But to complete the transformation, he must obtain the seed of the other bears in the forest.   Gareth, a ginger-haired man, and Tyrone, a black man, are cooperative but Logan remains hostile.

Jarrod wants to complete the transformation so he will be with Caleb forever but Logan’s jealousy just might lead to his death.

Excerpt:

The white bear hadn’t changed at all since their brief meeting so many months ago.  If anything he looked larger.  His bare torso maintained its muscularity and thin covering of hair, which had turned mostly white.  The pajama bottoms he wore low on his hips seemed to be held up only by the curve of his ass and did little to cover the bulge in the front.
“Eyes up here,” Caleb said making Jarrod realize he had been staring.  He held out his hand and Jarrod took it, rising to his feet.
Jarrod fell into his arms, kissing and stroking his body, not wanting to ever let go.  He vowed never to fall asleep in Caleb’s presence again, lest he find himself waking from a dream and alone.
“Why don’t you two take that indoors?”
Jarrod gasped, spinning around.  He forgot they weren’t by themselves.  A large black man with a shaved head and full beard stood with a beefy arm draped over the shoulder of an equally muscular white man with red hair.  The black man wore only jeans.  The ginger-haired man wore a sleeveless plaid shirt, hanging open to reveal chest and abs covered in red hair.
            “Jarrod, this is Tyrone…”
The black man nodded without smiling.
            “…and Gareth.”
The ginger bear inclined his head with a pleasant grin.  “Nice to meet you.”
Jarrod suddenly felt vulnerable and embarrassed, standing naked in front of strangers.
Of course, nothing could be worse than the compromising position in which they first saw me, he thought.  “Do you think I could have some clothes, please?”
Gareth and Tyrone laughed while Caleb slipped off his pajama pants.  He draped the legs over Jarrod’s shoulders and tied them in a loose knot as if they were a scarf.
“Is that better?” Caleb stood back, hands on hips in his naked glory.
Jarrod could not help but laugh himself.
“We’ll catch up with you later,” Tyrone said as he and Gareth turned and walked into the woods.
Jarrod watched them disappear.  He was alone with Caleb, what he had yearned for but so much had happened in the span of an hour or so, he didn’t know what to think.  Questions raced through his mind, trying to piece everything together but nothing made sense.  Even his first meeting with Caleb wreaked of fantasy.
“You’re awfully quiet,” Caleb said.  He hooked an arm around Jarrod’s neck and kissed him on the head.
Jarrod mashed his face against the hairy chest.  Now all of it felt so natural to him.  Standing naked in the middle of the forest in the rain with his lover.  Nothing else seemed to matter.
“You still have a lot of questions, don’t you?”  Caleb’s chest vibrated as he spoke and Jarrod nodded.
“The best way to describe this is we’re the guardians of the forest,” Caleb began, leading him into the woods following a narrow trail.
“Guardians against what?” Jarrod asked.  It sounded even more incredible and he tried to wrap his mind around the concept.
Caleb shrugged.  “Nothing fantastical.  Just trespassers, urban encroachment, anything that can harm the forest.”
“This is a huge forest,” Jarrod blurted out.  “Hundreds of square miles.  Maybe thousands.  And just the four of you can protect it?”
“I know it sounds incredible but when you have the powers of a bear, it’s not such a daunting task as it would seem.”
“Wait a minute.” Jarrod stopped in his tracks.  “The powers of a bear?”
Caleb smiled at him.  “Does that sound so crazy?”
            “It sounds impossible!”

Realm of the Grizzly Bear - available October 29!

My new bearotica story, Realm of the Grizzly Bear, will be available from JMS Books, October 29!  This is a follow-up to my story featured in JMS Books' Stocking Stuffers: Realm of the Polar Bear.

Blurb:
Ever since Jarrod spent a night of passion with Caleb, his body is transforming into a bear.  After months of searching, he finds Caleb who explains he must be seeded by the other bears in the forest to complete the transformation.  It sounds easy but Logan, the large brown bear, is not cooperative.  Jarrod is determined to go through with it but it might cost him his life.

Excerpt:

"Saving Tirnan", my new story available at JMS Books!

My latest short story, "Saving Tirnan", a 'tail' of the sea is now available from JMS Books!  Yes, it's a story about a merman.

Blurb:
Captain Andrew secures his cruise ship in the safe waters of a tropical island to escape a hurricane.  While he and his crew prepare to leave, Andrew gets a visit from mysterious, handsome denizen that convinces him that the island may contain a paradise beyond his wildest dreams.

Afterwards, Captain Andrew and the crew of the Diamond learn that the volcano on El Paradiso, the tropical paradise where Tirnan and the mer-people live is about to erupt.  The world’s attention is focused on the tiny spec of land.  Andrew and his crew must race against time to keep the mer-people’s presence a secret.  How can they do that when scientists and reporters from all over the globe are descending on El Paradiso?

Excerpt:

Being captain of a cruise ship in the Caribbean, he saw many wonderful and amazing creatures.  It wasn’t at all unusual to see porpoises, dolphins and even whales but the excitement never wore off.  Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of the tail as it broke the surface again, but there was something strange about it.

That movement was calculated, deliberate, Andrew thought in surprise.  It wasn’t the randomness of a dolphin at play.  He focused on the spot where it disappeared.  For several long seconds, nothing happened.  Andrew began to chastise himself for imagining things, but a flash below the surface captured his attention.

A head rose out of the water, long blond hair flowed over the broad muscular shoulders that followed, wet skin gleamed in the moonlight.  A fire stirred in Andrew’s loins.  He sucked in his breath as the figure looked upward to him, revealing the most handsome face he had ever seen.

With a smile and a wink, the merman leapt up and arched backward into a graceful back dive, exposing a perfectly chiseled V-shaped torso.  The tail sliced through the wake left by the merman with only a whisper of sound.

Is he showing off or trying to seduce me?  Andrew shrugged, shifting his position in the window to catch every glimpse he could.  Either way, it’s working for me.

He sat on the sill and watched the merman frolicking in the dark water, putting on a show for his personal enjoyment.  The beautiful creature would leap out of the water and dive back in displaying amazing acrobatics.  Then he would swim in lazy circles, showing huge arms, and would roll onto his back, exposing a muscular chest and a large penis, adding to Andrew’s pleasure.

Soon the entertainment stopped and the merman gazed up at Andrew, his smile showing beautiful white teeth in the tropical night.  He crooked a finger at him, beckoning.

He wants me to join him!  Andrew’s heart skipped a beat in excitement.  Pushing his body out of the window, Andrew hesitated on the sill, looking at the precipitous drop to the water.  As he leaned farther out gauging the distance, his hand slipped off the damp sill and he fell, with limbs flailing like a rag doll, making a clumsy, graceless cannonball into the warm water.  The resulting splash echoed off the island hills like a rifle shot.

Although he was a strong swimmer, the sudden darkness of underwater disoriented Andrew.  His unceremonious drop took him deeper than he expected.  His confusion rose to panic as he couldn’t find the surface.  His lungs started to burn for fresh air.  He kicked and floundered frantically, windmilling his arms and working his legs in an effort to push upward.

A pair of muscular arms wrapped around his chest from behind, holding him in a firm yet gentle grip, and then something propelled him to the surface in a flash.  As he broke through, Andrew gasped and panted sucking in huge breaths of sweet, fragrant air.

As sanity returned, the arms released him and Andrew turned to face his savior, the beautiful merman who had been showing off under his window.

“Hello, Captain Andrew,” he said, smiling, his voice just above a whisper.  “I’m Tirnan.”

“Hi, Tirnan.”  Andrew managed a few words between gasps for breath.  “Thanks for saving my life.  I thought I was gonna drown!”

Tirnan shook his head, still smiling.  “No.  You’re safe as long as you’re with me.”  His soft voice caressed Andrew’s frazzled nerves and soothed his fear.  His touch sent fire through Andrew’s veins, quickening his pulse faster than the shock of near-drowning had.  “Well as safe as you can be with me.”  Tirnan winked, holding on to Andrew with one hand, he pulled his free arm out of the water  twirling the shorts Andrew wore when he fell into the water, on one finger.  With a flick of his wrist, Tirnan tossed the shorts far out into the bay.  Andrew gasped.  He’d not been aware that they had been removed.  A splash, barely audible, seconds later gave him little hope of ever seeing them again.

Oh, well.

He felt a tug on his arm.
“Come on,” Tirnan said, pulling him away from the ship.
