Celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month: Sonia Sotomayor, first Hispanic and first Latina Supreme Court Justice
Sonia Sotomayor is the first Hispanic and first Latina U.S. Supreme Court Justice. Her parents are from Puerto Rico, but she was born in the Bronx. She was nominated by President Obama in May 2009 after Justice David Souter retired. Sotomayor was confirmed by the Senate in August 2009.
She has appeared on Sesame Street twice and pressed the button to drop the ball at the Times Square New Year's Eve December 31, 2013.
